If we had told the beginner Marco Bezzecchi that he was going to run a 1'58.710 during the MotoGP test in Sepang, while the official circuit record is 1'58.303, he probably wouldn't have believed it!

Yet this is indeed the reality, and even if the test record (therefore unofficial) is now established in 1'58.131 by Aeneas Bastianini, the Mooney VR46 Racing Team rookie has reason to be satisfied with his tests in Malaysia.
Best beginner on the first of the two days riding his Ducati Desmosedici GP21, a small fall in the gravel at the opening of the Sunday session fortunately did not prevent him from retaining the satisfaction of being the best rookie at the end of this first 2022 test.

16th position is one thing, the situation of best rookie too, but the gap of only 0,579 seconds with the fastest is another, and certainly smiles reign in the #72 box!

It is now time for the Mooney VR46 Racing Team debutant to leave Malaysia in the next few hours for Indonesia. Next meeting planned for the native of Rimini: the MotoGP Test, from February 11 to 13, on the Pertamina Mandalika international circuit.

Marco Bezzecchi: « Honestly, I didn't expect such a time, I'm happy, we did a great job with the team, the technicians and Ducati. It's a shame about this morning: just before my fastest lap, I was long in the last corner, I entered the gravel trap and I crashed. I went back to the garage and with different tires I did my best lap. An impressive time, built step by step since the shakedown. Compared to the first days I feel better on the bike, at the beginning I was missing something at the front in terms of riding style, then we checked all the data and we managed to take a nice step forward . I can't wait to get back to work in Mandalika. »

Pablo Nieto: “ I am satisfied with what has been done during this long week here in Malaysia. Marco worked hard during the shakedown and collected a lot of data which was very useful for this second test where he was able to try the new bike even in the wet. We are a young team, but I am very happy with the whole group, we can't wait to get back on the track in Indonesia. »
