“The bikes that Jack and Miguel tested in Barcelona were a little less capable than Fabio and Alex’s. Today they are almost identical. But yes, as you know, we never tend to make radical changes. But we've been making consistent updates and, you know, we also arrived two days before everyone else, which gave us the opportunity to work on the settings to compare things. For now, the only thing we can say is that we are faster than last year, but I would like to wait until tomorrow evening to have a clear idea of where we are."
Like its top pilot, Massimo Meregalli keep your feet on the ground and remain cautious, knowing full well the advantage brought by the three days of shakedown thanks to the concessions…
"If you look the results so far, they are positive, but as I said before, we had the advantage of concessions and we arrived earlier. So we are in a better situation than others.. We have to wait. I can only repeat that if we compare to what we did last year on the same day and also yesterday, we are faster. So it's positive."
Yamaha has brought two new chassis to Malaysia. One is easy to spot as it is unpainted, the other much less…
« We have two of them, because two are the same with a different color, and one is different, yes. We follow what we were able to do at the end of last year, when the results started to improve, and we just follow that direction that turned out to be positive. So that's the path we took last year and we continue to work in that direction."
As for the long-awaited M1 equipped with a V4 engine, it seems impossible today to know when it will arrive...
"When she's ready. For sure."it is impossible to say anything. We would definitely like to get it on track as soon as possible, but we will do it when we are ready."
