MotoGP Test Sepang J3 Alex Rins (Yamaha/16): "I can ride the bike my way, without pain, that's a good thing"

Yamaha's Alex Rins still gave an encouraging assessment after five days of testing at Sepang, despite set-up problems and a top speed lower than that of Quartararo. Rins concluded the third and final day of IRTA testing at the Sepang circuit with the 16th time. At the end of the day, he expressed his satisfaction with the approach taken by the team, highlighting the good work accomplished so far. He stated : " I'm quite happy because so far we've done a good job of testing ».

alex rins also shared some good news: after his serious leg injury last season, he hardly feels any pain anymore. He said happily: “ I only had difficulty on the first day of the IRTA test. The two days of Shakedown went well, then I had a little soreness on the first day of IRTA. The second and third days were perfect again. I can ride the bike my way, without pain, that's a good thing ».

On the technical side, the new engine Yamaha impressed factory riders, combined with slightly slimmer aerodynamics, especially compared to the competition, during testing in Malaysia. Fabio Quartararo has reached 338,5 km/h on the M1 on Wednesday, remaining at the top of the maximum speed list during the Sepang test. Kidneys, however, only reached 334,3 km / h.

But he explained: “This is because the maximum speed sensor is placed right at the braking point. From the data you can see that Fabio brakes five to seven meters later than me ».

Concerning lap times, the drivers Yamaha experienced similar difficulties, quickly hitting the limit on the M1. Quarterly was eight tenths off the best time, while Kidneys was 1,197 seconds behind. Noticing this discrepancy, the pilot 28 years makes a comparison with its previous Honda : " for me this bike is a little better in terms of acceleration, but it's true that when you want to push for a lap time or a race pace you have more effort than the others ».

The Spaniard, however, remains optimistic despite the challenges: “ I'm quite happy because we've had some good tests so far ". However, he recognizes a need for improvement in coordination and adjustments, noting difficulties in the braking phase.
