Joan Mir, like Fabio Quartararo, demanded a more powerful engine from his employer and, unlike the Frenchman, the Spaniard was satisfied. Suzuki has therefore shown itself to be more resourceful than Yamaha, whose reaction is now awaiting. However, it is not towards Iwata that all eyes are turned. Attention is in fact focused on the Borgo Panigale factory where worrying Ducatis come out that are no longer being stopped. The 2020 MotoGP World Champion just hopes that the Italians will slow down a little to still have a chance to counter them…

It may not be the world title of Fabio Quartararo which will haunt the nights of the winter break of the MotoGP protagonists. Because listening to the assessments of two days of testing in Jerez who are already preparing the hostilities of 2022, we are only talking about Ducati. It must be said that they are imposing, with any driver on them at that. And there will be eight next year.

Joan mir confirms this feeling of domination by announcing when leaving Jerez : " I'm going on vacation with the feeling of work accomplished, of a positive year for us even if, logically, we wanted more. But it hasn't been a bad year at all. I need a vacation, to disconnect from all that to resume with more force. It looks like next year there will be fewer stops and we will start again sooner. So the time we have to rest well is important ».

But he is worried like everyone else about the Olympic form shown by the Ducati : " I think we are all waiting to see if Ducati will take another step, because this year, they were the strongest. There will be more Ducatis and it will be difficult for the others to manage. I hope that the progress they make won't be very big and that we will get closer, that's what we all hope for ».

Joan Mir: “ the feeling is good, I'm happy with how everything is going«

This confession made, this collective fear displayed in broad daylight, Joan mir takes stock of its strengths. And it gets better: “ the last day was difficult because of the wind, there was more wind than yesterday, it limits you a little because you can't drive fast. I would have liked another day, but we got to try things on the bike, we worked on the electronics and we understand the true potential of the engine. I'm happy with the steps we're taking ».

He is happy with what he sees in his box Suzuki : " I'm happy with the progress we're making. In this test we tried things, it's true that with these conditions we can't check the real performance, I'm not riding perfectly because I'm focused on everything that needs to be tested. But the feeling is good, I'm happy with the way everything is going. It will now be important to see what they bring to the next test, but progress is good ».

The 2022 engine is more powerful, and this was one of its main requirements: “ this bike has more power. Power is important, but it is also important to use it correctly. That's what we're working on, with the trim, the aerodynamics... all that helps keep the horses on the ground, and that's more important than looking for more power. I think the engine is good, but still needs work ».
