The promising duo of the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team applied themselves again today, during this first day of testing in Australia, aboard their black Yamaha YZR-M1s.

Under the sun, but still windy conditions, Jonas Folger was able to continue to demonstrate his good winter form by finishing the day as first Rookie, just 0.652 from the provisional podium. Completing 80 laps, Johann Zarco mainly worked on his pace before establishing, during his 77th lap, a time which placed him less than 3 tenths behind his teammate.

“I'm pretty happy with today's result and we gathered some important information, although it was a bit tricky because of the wind, but luckily the weather improved in the afternoon. I set a solid time in the morning, and after that we started working on the bike setup and tires. Towards the end of the session the Yamaha started to feel a little light from the front, so now we need to analyze why this happened and see if it was due to my riding or the settings. Nevertheless, the team and I have gathered a lot of data and we feel positive, which makes us optimistic for tomorrow, and we will continue to do our best when we return to the track. »

“The first day at Phillip Island went well for me and I can't wait to get back on the Yamaha YZR-M1 tomorrow. The conditions were really good and the temperature was high, which meant that I was able to complete a lot of laps. I have to admit that I wasn't entirely confident on this circuit because I crashed there several times in Moto2 in previous years, so the main goal for today was to continue to feel more confident. easy. We haven't worked so much on the technical aspects because I've just covered a certain distance but, step by step, I'm improving and feeling more positive. So overall today was encouraging but we have work to do on Thursday and Friday. »
