Jack Miller delivered a solid performance in the rain-hit Thailand Grand Prix. Unfortunately for the Australian, premature wear on his front tyre meant he missed out on a well-deserved podium finish.
Jack Miller, the official pilot KTM nicknamed "Thriller Miller", showed his full potential during the Thailand Grand Prix, but ultimately finished a frustrating 5th after being in a good position for a podium finish. For 24 of the 26 laps of the race, Miller lived up to his reputation as the rain king, but he lost his valuable ranking in the final rounds.
After crossing the finish line, Jack Miller struggled to assess his performance, oscillating between satisfaction and disappointment. Everything was fine, " he commented, while acknowledging that he would have liked to get the laurel he deserves after his best race of the year.
Miller described the challenges he faced: “ It was a long race, 26 laps in these conditions. I was relatively careful at the start because I didn't want to fall on the line with the rear wheel spinning. From 15th place, the first laps were difficult. I rode in a lot of spray and tried to avoid chaos on the track, because many motorcycles were damaged"
However, he quickly found his rhythm, working his way up to fourth after overtaking his team-mate Brad Binder. " When Marc Marquez fell, I was third, " said Miller, visibly satisfied with his position. Unfortunately, problems began to arise.
Jack Miller: “ with Acosta we touched at the exit of turn 3 and turned parallel in the fourth turn »
« About halfway through the race my front tire was worn out. I had burned it on the way back up and I had no more speed in the exit phases of the turns. I had to park the bike before each turn to find grip at the front,” he explained. Miller then added that the heat from the front tyre had led to understeer issues, which made it difficult for him to handle the bike in fast corners.
Jack Miller also had to defend his position against the attacker Peter Acosta. " As he squeezed alongside me on the inside, we touched on the exit of Turn 3 and went parallel into Turn XNUMX. I thought: This is where my front wheel started to slip literally at every turn, " he said. Although the duel was close, Acosta finally took over.
Miller expressed frustration after being intercepted by Fabio DiGiannantonio in the last laps. I was chased and I gave everything to defend this podium.. But today, it was not planned, " he sighed.
Nevertheless, Miller kept a positive attitude, talking about the pleasure he had driving on a wet track: " you just have to feel what is happening below you. Carbon brakes are so good and can be adjusted with so little effort that you can play with the grip and manage it. I always have good feelings in the wet"
Summarizing his race, he concluded: “ We showed courage. And that's what matters! "This determination and passion for racing will continue to guide Miller in his last competitions with KTM before joining the new package Pramac Yamaha.
