MotoGP, Thailand, Qualifying LIVE: Marc Marquez in control ahead of his brother!

Qualifying is always a moment of very high intensity, and the MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix qualifying session was no exception...

All already assured of going directly to Q2, Alex Marquez, Marc Márquez, Pedro Acosta, Marco Bezzecchi, Franco Morbidelli, Joan Mir, Raul Fernandez, Fabio Quartararo, Ai Ogura and Johann Zarco are probably feeling a little less pressure than their opponents, including Francesco Bagnaia at the centre of a controversy, but the qualifying for the MotoGP Grand Prix of Thailand will remain a moment of very high intensity in any case.

To be convinced of this, just look at the differences between Ai Ogura, 9th in Practice, and Luca Marini, 16th in the exercise: less than 2 tenths of a second (0,190) to separate 8 drivers, among whom are Maverick Vinales, Brad Binder, Pecco Bagnaia, Jack Miller and Fabio Di Giannantonio ! We will fight to the tune of hundredths of a second and there will be no room for error!

For French fans, the weekend is looking good and Q2 will be a great session anyway, since we have to go back to the 2023 Malaysian Grand Prix to find Fabio Quartararo et Johann zarco gathered directly in the last phase of the qualifications.

Qualification 1:

When the red lights go out... Francesco Bagnaia does not waste a second and sets off first. His mission is clear: to recover from the blunders of the race management who mistakenly took away his best lap yesterday during Practice.

Everyone is on new tires, soft on the rear and front, except Luca Marini, Enea Bastianini, Lorenzo Savadori, Somkiat Chantra and Alex Rins who use the hard front.

Francis Bagnaia immediately slams a 1'29.464 while training Fabio DiGiannantonio in his wheel.

He improved on the next pass to 1'29.180, thus creating a gap of just half a second on his immediate pursuer.

At the end of the first run, the hierarchy is composed of Francesco Bagnaia, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Jack Miller, Brad Binder, Fermin Aldeguer, Luca Marini, Aleix Rins, Enea Bastianini, Somkiat Chantra, Lorenzo Savadori, Maverick Vinales and Miguel Oliveira.

Honestly, the suspense now seems to rest solely on the second position. Diggia will he be able to take advantage of the advantage provided by the target point? Pecco Bagnaia during the first run or will he be surpassed in the last minutes of this Q1?

After changing the tire, Francis Bagnaia decides not to set off again straight away, hoping to save a soft rear tire. The maneuver is risky but worth trying…

Two minutes from the checkered flag, Miguel Oliveira jumps to second position, then has to give way to Jack Miller which is close to 2/10 of Pecco.

Finally, Jack Miller is close to 6/1000 of Francis Bagnaia who, we can say, had a close call! And he is clearly not the only one...

Results of Qualification 1 of the MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix in Buriram:

Qualification 2: 

Francis Bagnaia et Jack Miller Drafted in Q1, there are now 12 of them competing for their places on the first four lines of the starting grid.

When the red lights go out… everyone rushes, Francesco Bagnai, Alex Marquez  et fabio quartararo on your mind.

Francis Bagnaia intends to take advantage of the pace acquired during Q1 and immediately imposes a 1'29.259 in front Pedro Acosta, Alex Marquez, Joan Mir and Franco Morbidelli.

On the second pass, Marc Márquez takes command in 1'28.782 ahead of his brother Alex Marquez and the surprising rookie Ai Ogura. We really regret that Jorge Martin don't be there...

At the end of the first run, the hierarchy is composed of Marc Márquez, Alex Márquez, Ai Ogura, Francesco Bagnaia, Franco Morbidelli, Marco Bezzecchi, Pedro Acosta, Raul Fernandez, Fabio Quartararo, Joan Mir, Johann Zarco and Jack Miller.

Upon resumption, Jack Miller jumps to fourth position, just behind Francis Bagnaia who won a place.

Two minutes from the checkered flag, Marco Bezzecchi minor fall at turn #3, leading to the traditional end-of-session yellow flags.

He is followed by Joan mir who loses control in the same place, fortunately still without gravity, but which leaves only one last lap to try to improve.

But no one will really benefit from it, and the track record is not broken!

Marc Márquez thus registers his 67th pole position in his career while a little disappointment runs through the French clan. Conversely, Pecco Bagnaia has restored the situation well, even if he has not been able to equalize his teammate so far…
