A Suzuki which dominates Yamaha and Honda, a Ducati which returns to victory and even a British rider who teaches a lesson... No, this is not a science fiction scenario, but indeed the current MotoGP season!
We have never seen such an open campaign. While the standard electronic control unit left doubts and the change of single manufacturer worried, it is clear that, despite the difficulties actually encountered, the success of the recipe is there.
Judge for yourself: in twelve races, the 2016 MotoGP season has already reached the 2006 record with seven different winners. The last time the premier class did better was in 2000 during the 500cc era with eight different winners.
In the last seven races, no driver has managed to win more than once, the longest series recorded in the premier category since 1999/2000. Never have four drivers triumphed for the first time in the premier category in the same season since 1982.
Likewise, four different manufacturers have distinguished themselves since the start of the season: Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha and Ducati, a first since 2007. And Moto2 like Moto3 are not left out since twenty-one different riders took part. 'already imposed this year, all categories combined, something never seen since 1982. But at that time the World Championship had five categories.
So of course, the World Champion will be a well-known name, a regular at the coronation, but while waiting for this final verdict, it is clear that this 2016 vintage is already a great vintage.
