For the fourth consecutive season, Brembo will still brake 100% of MotoGP during 2019, but with a personalized approach for each rider.

Each of the 22 MotoGP riders decided to choose the high performance, reliability and safety guaranteed by Brembo components, brake calipers, discs, master cylinders, pads, and since the introduction of the MotoGP category in 2002, the 296 GP were won by motorcycles equipped with Brembo brakes. The winning streak in the premier category is, however, longer, since since 1995 all GPs have been won by motorcycles equipped with Brembo brakes.

As a world leader in the production of braking systems, Brembo continues to invest in R&D, to guarantee riders maximum performance, optimal feeling and absolute stopping power. In addition, Brembo strives to satisfy the requirements of the different teams, offering personalized braking solutions, deriving from the specific desires of the riders. For the 2019 season, a wide range of technical solutions will allow Brembo to guarantee everyone the possibility of customizing the braking system according to riding style, circuit characteristics and racing strategy.

Brembo engineers, who work closely with the teams, do not expect many changes in braking behavior compared to last season. With numerous options for brake discs, brake master cylinders and calipers, Brembo offers a specific solution for each rider and for each circuit.

8 carbon brake disc solutions

While the majority of drivers should choose discs with a diameter of 340 mm, split between High Mass and Standard, some teams will instead continue to use standard mass and high mass discs with a diameter of 320 mm. XNUMXmm.

Additionally, for each brake disc and pad format, two different carbon compounds are available, differing for initial brake bite and high temperature resistance.

In total, riders have 8 different options for choosing brake discs: 4 disc geometries each with 2 material specifications (High Mass and Standard Mass).

More and more riders are abandoning steel discs even in rain. Carbon provides a triple advantage: a reduction in unsprung mass, an identical coefficient of friction from start to finish and an absence of residual torque problems that can result from the use of steel discs.

Thumb Master Cylinder Types
The types of brake master cylinders available to teams differ in terms of wheelbase, in order to adapt both the travel and the “responsiveness” of the control according to the rider's feel. Additionally, each motorcycle is equipped with a remote adjuster, used by the rider's left hand to vary the position of the brake lever, even while riding on the racetrack.

According to Brembo, more than a third of MotoGP riders regularly use the thumb master cylinder. This technical solution, introduced by Brembo in the 90s to help Mick Doohan, allows the rear brake to be activated by pressing a special lever placed on the left half-handlebar and operated by the rider's thumb.

Two variants of thumb master cylinder systems are used for the 2019 season: the most common is equipped with a single circuit connecting the thumb master cylinder and the pedal, and using a two-piston rear caliper. Instead, the alternative features two separate circuits, each of which acts on two of the four pistons in the rear caliper. In the first option, one system excludes the other, in the second they can act simultaneously.

From 2019, teams will also be able to use a variation of the classic thumb pump, called a push & pull pump. This new design is optimized to guarantee maximum efficiency. It has a dual function and can be operated by the thumb or index finger, depending on the pilot's preference. Using this pump with the index finger requires that it be mounted on the lever with a rotation of 180° compared to using the thumb: this increases sensitivity and grip on the lever during deceleration.

New Marchesini 5-spoke rims

In 2019, Marchesini forged magnesium rims will once again be used by the majority of riders in MotoGP, with 7 out of 11 teams.

Marchesini rims are 5 Y-spoke or 7-spoke. Marchesini wheels, a brand of the Brembo group, ensure weight savings for motorcycles, favoring acceleration and maneuverability during changes of direction and the most critical phases: when entering a curve when braking, when turning at high inclination (up to 60°) and at the exit of the curve when opening the throttle.
