With only two riders under guaranteed contracts and a major technical overhaul on the horizon, MotoGP is poised to enter a phase of unprecedented transformation. The 2027 season could redefine the established hierarchies, both on the grid and within the manufacturers. Teams are already on high alert, and some are already showing their hand, like Uccio Salucci of VR46 ahead of Pedro Acosta.
La FIM and Dorna They are about to turn a historic page: engines will be reduced from 1,000 to 850 cc, aerodynamics will be drastically simplified, and pitch correction will be prohibited. A radical shift, intended to put driving back at the heart of the game — but which will also reshuffle the deck in terms of competitiveness and recruitment strategy.
These new rules are creating unprecedented tension in the pilot market. To date, only Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) and Johann zarco (Honda) have a contract covering the 2027 season. Two very different profiles: a Superbike world champion, who will make his MotoGP debut in 2026, and the French veteran, a pillar of experience at Honda.
Behind them, it's a real lottery: around twenty drivers still have to negotiate their future in a paddock where everything can change from one test to the next. And at the heart of all the speculation, one name keeps coming up: Peter Acosta.
Currently fifth in the 2025 championship, just a few points behind bagnaia et Bezzecchi, the Spaniard from 21 ans embodies the next generation — and above all, the perfect profile for this new generation of lighter and more demanding motorcycles.
Uccio Salucci, team manager of VR46, does not hide his ambition: " Of course we want Acosta. We have a free ride for 2027 and we'll do everything to get him. But Ducati, Aprilia… Everyone dreams of a pilot like him »

Uccio Salucci marks the end of the VR46 academy: “ we are a MotoGP team like any other »
Long a showcase for young Italian talent, the stable founded by Valentino Rossi is now a fully-fledged MotoGP team.
« We no longer have only Academy pilots " Explain Salucci. “ Vietti is the only one today, the others are still very young. The team must also look outwards.Fabio Di Giannantonio is also surprised by this, and yet he has fully integrated into our project.. »
A logical development, according to him: “Bezzecchi, Marini… they grew up with us. But now, we are playing in the big leaguesWe are a MotoGP team like any other. »
Between technical revolution and contractual uncertainty, the 2027 season is shaping up to be a real strategic puzzle.
Manufacturers will need to combine engineering and flair to identify riders capable of adapting quickly to a radically different motorcycle.
One thing is certain: the MotoGP enters a new era, where youth, instinct and adaptability will be the keys to success.
