In just a few years, Ducati VR46 has emerged as one of the best MotoGP teams; under the leadership of Valentino Rossi, Uccio Salucci and Pablo Nieto, the team develops in-house talent but also serves as a haven for Italian riders facing the end of their contracts. Rossi, rather discreet since his departure from the championship at the end of 2021, sometimes makes notable appearances in the paddock, while his long-time friend keeps a close eye on things.
Ducati VR46 principal Uccio Salucci is highly respected in the paddock. Having risen from assistant to boss, he works closely with Rossi and Pablo Nieto to carry out the team's mission. In an interview with speedweek, he elaborated on Valentino Rossi's involvement in the project. « Valentino knows everything, sees everything. He's interested in the smallest detail, right down to the design of the liveries for our motorcycles. He is very involved, we call each other every day to talk about everything. When it comes to technique, we bring it up and then we put it aside and we have a meeting dedicated to it every three months » he declared.

Uccio's role as director is extremely important and he is aware of it. “I observe the whole structure. Running a MotoGP team requires very precise organization. Personally, I'm a fan of the idea of assigning specialized tasks to specialists. My job is to put the right people in the right place, bring everything together, and constantly look for areas for improvement. Someone has to be the boss, otherwise it's chaos. » he continued.
He also discussed the privateer team's relationship with Ducati, the motorcycle supplier. And this might come as a surprise to some, but Valentino Rossi doesn't really have any contact with the Borgo Panigale company. « Valentino doesn't talk to anyone at Ducati. He talks to me, and I'm the one who passes it on to them.Pablo deals with them on current matters, and I communicate directly with Gigi Dall'Igna. We want to continue with Ducati, and in fact, we have a contract that binds us to them until the end of 2029. But you should know that each team has a contract with DORNA and this expires in 2027, it will first have to be renewed » he concluded.
