Last year, the British Grand Prix was wrecked. A poorly resurfaced and degraded track followed by an angry sky characterized by a biblical downpour had the better of the meeting of Silverstone with MotoGP. It still remained on the calendar this year. And he has no right to miss it. Major work will therefore be done…

The circuit of Silverstone will be resurfaced ahead of this year's Formula 1 British Grand Prix, following the cancellation of its 2018 MotoGP race. Aggregate Industries had resurfaced before last season, but due to heavy rain of the MotoGP weekend, the races had to be canceled and an investigation into the circuit was launched.

The site Motorsport reports that further work is required for the circuit to obtain the FIM Grade A license needed to stage this year's MotoGP event, scheduled for August 24-25, 2019.

Given Silverstone's busy schedule, the work - described in a statement from Silverstone Circuits Limited as "essential track maintenance" - is scheduled for June.

This means the re-surfacing will take place after the Blancpain Endurance GT Series Endurance Cup on May 11-12 and the British GT visit on June 8-9, and before the British F1 Grand Prix on July 10-12. While international events are unlikely to be affected, two club meetings will be canceled: the MG Car Club MG Live event initially scheduled for June 15 and 16 and the 750 Motor Club visit on June 22. and June 23.

Silverstone management said it hoped to help clubs find alternative dates later in the year.
