This is the 22rd time the Ricardo Tormo Circuit has hosted a Grand Prix since the first visit in 1999. The track is named after Spanish racer Ricardo Tormo, who won the 50cc title for Bultaco in 1978 and 1981. In addition to 15 Grand Prix victories in the 50cc category, he also achieved four victories in the 125cc category. His career ended in 1984 due to leg injuries sustained in a testing accident. Ricardo Tormo sadly died of leukemia in 1998.

Valencia is the third different track to host the European Grand Prix with Jarama (1991) and the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (from 1992 to 1995). The 1991 European Grand Prix replaced the Yugoslav Grand Prix which was canceled due to the political situation.

This will be the first time that Valencia has not hosted the final race of the season since the MotoGP era. The last time this happened was in 2001, when Valencia hosted the 12th round of the season.

The last victory of Honda MotoGP took place in Valencia, thanks to Marc Marquez in 2019. Honda is the most successful manufacturer here with 10 premier class victories with six different riders: Alex Barros (2002) Valentino Rossi (2003) Marco Melandri (2005) Dani Pedrosa (2007, 2009, 2012 and 2017), Casey Stoner (2011) et Marc Marquez (2014 and 2019). Yamaha follows with seven successes, like Ducati with three achievements while Suzuki has only achieved success on one occasion.

However, Honda failed to win any of the first 11 MotoGP races this season. This is the first time that there has been no victory for Honda in at least one of the first ten (or more) races in the premier category since the manufacturer's return to this category in 1982.

With 11th place in Cal Crutchlow At the Teruel Grand Prix, it was the first time that Honda had not finished in the top ten since the 1982 French Grand Prix, although the race was boycotted by top drivers for safety reasons.
