Hervé Poncharal is heading to Valencia for the last Grand Prix of the year, which we do not know if it will end in the Tech3 box with a starting drink. Circumstances would allow it since its two drivers will leave their orange overalls once the finish line of the Riccardo Tormo route has been crossed, to sail towards other horizons. However, and the French boss admits, nothing really happened as hoped. New adventures will nevertheless begin for everyone on the Tuesday following this final round which will lower the curtain on this trying campaign, the better to lift the veil on the 2023 vintage.
« Here we are in Valencia, which already marks the end of a busy 2022 season »Comments Hervé Poncharal on the road to Valencia. " The opening round in Qatar seems like yesterday, and yet we are about to close this season with a twentieth and final race ". This observation made, he adds in complete objectivity: “ If we take stock of this year, we can say that neither the team nor the drivers achieved what they dreamed of. We had an incredible line-up on paper with two exciting rookies, Rémy Gardner and Raul Fernandez, Moto2 world champion and Moto2 vice-champion, but it didn't work out the way we all wanted ».
Hervé Poncharal: “ sometimes we learn better in difficult situations«
« It's always sad to end a season, even if it hasn't been easy every weekend », assures the Frenchman. “ We still shared good times with Rémy and Raul, and I think they both learned a lot. Sometimes we learn better in difficult situations, and for sure they are two better drivers than they were at the start of 2022. Rémy is moving up to WorldSBK, and I'm sure he will be fast and do great things. Raul remains in the MotoGP championship in 2023, and the team that welcomes him will have a mature pilot ».
« To end this season, the dream would of course be to have our two guys in the points, but also to have them both with a smile on their face throughout the weekend. We will try to give them what they expect and we hope that this last race will be exciting for the drivers and their teams ". Then he finishes: “ this will also be the last race in orange for our team, and I hope we can close this chapter in style ". We will indeed recall that in 2023, Tech3 will not only have two new drivers, with Pol Espargaro et Augusto Fernandez, but also a new red livery in MotoGP highlighting the GASGAS brand.
