Joan Mir has nothing to be ashamed of in her last race of the year in Valencia. The Suzuki driver thus managed to position himself in 7th place. A great performance for this rookie who, since the second part of the season, has continued to reach the top 10.
Seventh in qualifying and finishing seventh in the race, Suzuki's new recruit, Joan mir concluded his first year in MotoGP in the most beautiful way.
He thus only conceded 1,8 seconds to Maverick Vinales who finished ahead of him in sixth position and yet the 22-year-old driver did not seem very satisfied with his race: “ from the first lap I didn't feel as good with the front as during the warm-up and practice sessions”, complained the teammate ofAlex Rins.
« Despite the problems, I finished seventh. But we made progress in Valencia and overall I'm happy with how we managed the season. We have taken the right steps to be able to fight for podiums or victories soon. But here it was still too early for that to happen even if during free practice everything seemed to be going well” confided the rookie.
The Suzuki rider believes that the cold weather had a negative impact on the set-up of his machine. “ In such cold conditions, it is difficult to correctly adjust the front tire pressure. Something was wrong. And on the 6th lap I had problems because there was a lot of wind”, declared the Majorcan. “ Nevertheless, we can be satisfied so far. We met our expectations for this season. The Suzuki is different from the Yamaha. Everyone says the GSX-RR is easy to ride, just like the M1, but if you understand it, it is very difficult to handle. Adapting the driving style to the motorcycle is very complicated » the Spaniard insisted.
« Looking ahead to 2020, I can't wait to see what bike Suzuki has for us. I heard about a new engine and new chassis parts. So we are looking forward to Tuesday,” Mir said. “After the good second half of the season in 2019, I want to have an even better season in 2020 than this year. During the winter break, we can review everything, introspect on the past year. Think about the mistakes you made and especially think about how to improve. I think 2020 will be a good year for us” concluded Joan Mir.
Good end to our 2019 season!
