Remy Gardner, 2 Moto2021 World Champion, will have only had one season in MotoGP and he therefore completed his last race in the category in Valencia. Another winner in the intermediate category from the same Ajo team will succeed him in the person of Augusto Fernandez. But it’s already ancient history for the 24-year-old Australian who will have scored points before bowing out and heading to a Yamaha in WSBK…

Remy gardner said goodbye to MotoGP in the 2022 season finale at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit after just one season. A positive conclusion to a complicated campaign, an epilogue that he spent battling with his teammate since Moto2 Raul fernandez who will also leave the fold KTM to join the ranks ofAprilia via the satellite team of Razlan Razali.

The Australian summed up his last appearance in the premier Grand Prix category as follows: “ it was a good race, even if the start was not ideal » says the son of the 500 title winner, Wayne. “ I was on the outside at turn 1 and got held up at turn 2. But after that I found my rhythm and was heading towards the top 15. By lap 7 I wanted to get closer to Alex Marquez but he fell in front of me. I swerved and had to right the bike. I almost fell myself and I lost time and positions, even though I stayed in the points ».

Remy Gardner: “ the rear tire was losing more and more grip«

The rookie's race 24 years did not go perfectly either: “ the rear tire was losing more and more grip. I adjusted the traction control, but it didn't help » he explains on speedweek. Nevertheless, despite the problem with the rear tire, already encountered this season, he declared: “ It was fun at the end, Raul Fernández and I had a little duel. I wanted revenge when he passed me, but Takaaki Nakagami passed me with three laps to go. I pushed and managed to make a “block-pass” in the last turn. I had fun and even did a few burnouts at the end » he concludes.

In addition to his 13th place, Gardner was delighted that his teammate Fernandez finished 12th and both scored a total of seven points for the team Tech3. The Valencia result marked the second best result of the season for last year's Moto2 world champion following an eleventh position at the Barcelona Grand Prix.
