Álex Márquez made his debut in MotoGP as a Honda official and teammate of his brother Marc within the Repsol factory team. It was during the first of two days of tests organized in Valencia which kick off the 2020 off-season. The Moto2 World Champion finished his discovery journey with the beastly RC213V in last place, almost 5 seconds behind the best time achieved by Quartararo on his Yamaha. It also fell very quickly. So nothing to really brag about, but the comments are intended to be indulgent.

Brad Binder also started on the KTM and he gave him 2s4 while with a Grand Prix in his hands on the same RC16, lecuona told him the mountain he would have to climb. Two beginners, like Alex Marquez, which arrives not only in the big leagues, but next to the very big ones. Something to already worry about for the youngest Marquez ? For the moment, the eldest prefers to laugh about it and put things into perspective: “ when I saw his fall on the screen, I exclaimed: hey, it’s a Márquez! ».

« I didn't see him after he fell. It's not the best start, because it prevents you from gaining confidence, but little by little, he increased his pace from what I could see. It was a typical beginner's accident on a cold track » explains the eight-time winner.

Will the latter give him advice? “ First of all, it is better not to saturate it with information. If I can give him advice, I will give it to him, but not at home anymore. Here on the circuit, everyone works on their own and must be professional. I have enough with my job. If I see something, it is clear that I will make the comment, but for that there is also Alberto Puig and Emilio Alzamora, who have a lot of experience, and I will continue working as before, with him at home . But on the circuit, he has his own style. All he has to do is seize the opportunity, take advantage of it and take it little by little. »

« Each driver is different and must take their own dynamic. The first thing I told him was that it was clear that, in order to know the limits of the Honda, I fell several times. It's a motorcycle that requires a lot of effort and courage. » Here Álex has been warned.

For his part, the team director Alberto Puig added : " the first day with MotoGP is always difficult. A fall is always unexpected, but Álex was able to return to work. I told him not to worry, even if he had lost a little time. He's back on the bike, showing progress and I'm confident he'll do better next. I think Álex is gradually getting to know the bike. » This is what we call enjoying a caring environment.
