Time passes quickly MotoGP and what's more, it is done through a staggered calendar. By that, mean that when you have a contract that runs until 2020, it is already now that you have to think about what comes next. This is the case of a Valentino Rossi whose decision, at 40 years old and given his aura, is most anticipated. Stop or still? The Doctor lifts the veil…

The man from Tavullia is a phenomenon. He has built one of the finest records in the history of Grands Prix. He has set up an ecosystem in the paddock which largely has his back. He also set up an academy which helps the Italian generation to face the Spanish one. Constant work and in all areas which has made him an icon whose notoriety goes far beyond MotoGP to which he contributed to the popularity. On this point, he comments: “ If I stop, nothing will change and MotoGP will remain MotoGP, but I'm happy that the championship is better known than it was before me. Maybe Dorna CEO Ezpeleta should give me some money for this ».

This joke made, he explains his situation: “ I had to think carefully about this two-year contract that I currently have. It was an important decision. I wasn't 100% sure. I had to weigh the pros and cons, even if it was ultimately easy to make a decision in the end. I still have a lot of time before I have to think about it again. I haven’t made a decision yet,” said the 40-year-old driver. “I prefer to take care of the first six races of the 2019 season, then the next six, that's how I usually work. Next year, when I have to make a decision, it will depend a lot on what I think about the performance of the bike, about our competitiveness. I must say that I haven't decided anything yet ».

Because the Yamaha , for the moment, don’t give him what he wants… “ Of course, the main goal is to continue aiming for the tenth title. I know it will be very difficult. The important thing now is to be stronger than in the last two years, to try to get on the podium every weekend and to fight to win races. It will be difficult to get the title, but as always it will be my goal. If the bike is as good as it was in 2015, then there's no reason why we can't do it. If the M1 is more competitive, we can be strong ».
