We are barely in June, but already, for the drivers, we are defining the program for next December... With this news which will hurt Italy: The Monza rally spectacle loses its great figurehead since Valentino Rossi will take part in the Abu Dhabi 12 Hours in December with a Ferrari GT3.
Valentino Rossi will not be at the Monza Rally Show (Italy) in early December 2019. Instead, the Italian opted for another event after the MotoGP season. He will tackle the 12 hours of Abu Dhabi with his half-brother Luca Marini and his friend Uccio » Salucci. This endurance race will take place on December 14 at the Yas Marina circuit. This surprising news was announced by the Doctor himself to “Sky Sport Italia”.
« We will not do the Monza rally, but we will change genre and do something else, we will drive to Abu Dhabi with a Ferrari 488 GT3, a long distance race of more than 12 hours, with three drivers, 'Uccio', my brother Luca and me ».
For Rossi, this will not be the debut in the GT3 category. In 2012 he entered Monza with a Ferrari 458 GT3 in the Blancpain Endurance Series. At that time, Rossi shared the cockpit with “Uccio”. The duo took 18th place at the time and in 2014, Jorge Lorenzo also took part in the 12 hours of Abu Dhabi.
The Monza rally spectacle loses its star star. For the past 20 years, Rossi's season ended with this rally. In 2006, 2007, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, he managed to win the event.
