Jorge Lorenzo returns in his show 99 seconds broadcast on the web on the events which punctuated the fifth round of the season at Mugello. During this Italian Grand full of emotion and rich in twists and turns, there was an incident on which the five-time World Champion wanted to stop to better attract the ears of Enea Bastianini. An event which took place during the grid and which put him up against a Johann Zarco who is doing well…
The scene would be laughable if it did not carry with it the dangers of a possible tragedy. Especially during a meeting already marred by the mourning of a rider, fatally injured during Moto3 qualifying. Just before the race MotoGP was launched, the pilots had to mark a minute of silence in memory of their missing colleague Jason dupasquier… Ten minutes before getting back on their MotoGP to go and compete for 23 laps on the selective Mugello track.
Many pilots said they had difficulty concentrating after the short ceremony, which further exacerbated their grief. Concentration, it is precisely its lack which led bastianini, reigning Moto2 World Champion, to be hit Johann zarco when gridding. An episode that Jorge Lorenzo analyzes as follows: “ Bastianini can't lose concentration like this. I don't know what he was paying attention to or what he was looking at at that moment, because he would have avoided Zarco. What happened could have had much more serious consequences for him, as well as for Johann, while conditioning the race. It is certain that his mistake cost Avintia a few thousand euros ».

A team which saw the first GP19 of the Italian damaged, before seeing the second leave in the direction of the gravel trap, since bastianini then fell while resuming the race… The Mallorcan also added: “ This is a beginner's mistake and on a motorcycle you should always have the greatest attention, before and after the race. We saw last year what happened to Bezzecchi and Marini, who both ended up on the ground in the victory lap ».
We will recall that bastianini explained that he had been disturbed by the airbag in his suit which had disconnected.
