Between two MotoGP Grands Prix, Franco Morbidelli trains, like all the other riders, in order to maintain his physical shape and his champion's mentality. However, for three years now he has turned to a sport that very few pilots practice in training, and it has ended up becoming a real passion.
The Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS team followed him on site for an interview, the opportunity to learn more about the training of a MotoGP rider.
The video is in English, you can find the translation below.

“I started karting in 2015, when I broke my leg. I wanted to continue training on something that had wheels, and I thought karting might be good. I then asked Uccio for advice and he immediately put me in contact with the guys at Birel. They were really nice to me and gave me a chassis right away, and TM gave me an engine so I could practice with a kart. »

“I really discovered a great sport. It's really fun, and the level of competition is high, even if you come to a basic circuit because there are amateurs and professional drivers.

“We try to train together with Valentino, Pasini and the other guys from the Academy and we really have fun, but while being in the competition, trying to gain a tenth or two tenths, to improve, to find the right moment to attack. A lot of things are similar to what we do on a motorcycle, so it's selective training. »

“I'm lucky because when I bring my kart home, I always have a lot of people around me, even if they don't come here, to maintain and repair it. There is Paolino, Matteo, Filippo. They are trying to give me the best kart possible. »

“It’s a challenge to train like this, but the track attitude is there. It's a sport that demands a lot physically and is tiring, you have to stay focused. I obviously love motorcycles, it's in my nature, but I also love four wheels. »
