The Yamaha representative arrives on his teammate's land, but hopes that his series of good results will continue in Misano and allow him to stay ahead of him.

Maverick Vinales comes to the San Marino Grand Prix much more positive than it was two months ago. The Spanish driver seems to have found a way of working that suits him to improve on his weak points, namely group starts and overtaking. The things put in place with Yamaha are producing results for his side, which has allowed him to total a victory, two podiums and a top 5 in the five races contested since Assen. Brno remains the only slight shadow on the board, with a final tenth place.

Nevertheless, the podium that followed in Great Britain confirmed the recent progress on the number 12's side, and the test carried out in Misano the following days only reinforced this feeling. “The test in Misano was useful because we tried a lot of things, not only for next year but also for this season” Vinales explained.

“We had a two-week break again, but we haven't stopped working since. We prepared ourselves with the aim of arriving in Misano in good physical and mental shape. »

Although his best result on the San Marino track was a fourth place and he has never been on the podium, the Yamaha rider believes in it for this weekend: “The San Marino Grand Prix is a kind of home GP for Yamaha, we have a lot of fans supporting us here, so I can't wait to get on my M1 and fight for the podium, boosted by the incredible atmosphere. »

Now ahead of his teammate, Valentino Rossi, by two points in the general classification, Viñales hopes to keep his place and widen the gap. The challenge will be high since the Doctor will be riding at home and will be extremely motivated to achieve a good result. But the Spaniard stays the course: “We are very happy with the positive results of the last races and we must remain focused to finish the season in a good place in the championship. Being the first Yamaha rider is my goal, as always. »
