The first season of the Motorcycle World Championship began in 1949. This season therefore marks the 75th anniversary of the category. MotoGP has chosen to mark the occasion at Silverstone which is hosting a British Grand Prix this weekend, synonymous with a return to school after the summer break as well as the start of the last part of this 2024 championship which is more open than ever.
To celebrate this anniversary in a unique way, MotoGP has decided to organize a special presentation of the historic liveries of the eleven teams entered in the championship. The opportunity for fans to rediscover the most beautiful pages in the history of the discipline. Each team was given carte blanche to create a design that paid homage to a key moment in its history.
The choice of Silverstone to host this event is not trivial. It was on this legendary circuit that the very first Grand Prix in the history of the Motorcycle World Championship took place in 1949. A return to basics which fits perfectly into this celebration.
Preparing for this event required careful organization. Initially planned for Kazakhstan, the anniversary weekend had to be postponed due to flooding. The Dutch Grand Prix at Assen was then considered, but the teams requested additional time to finalize their designs. It is finally Silverstone which was chosen to host this celebration.
« Each of the current MotoGP teams was tasked with creating a design that commemorates a chapter in their history chosen by the respective team. So it's interesting to see what designs the eleven teams, including the five factory teams, will create out of their hats" , said Dan Rossomondo, CCO of Dorna Sports.
