The MotoGP engines had barely stopped at Jerez after the Spanish Grand Prix when the Motorland Aragón circuit opened its track on Monday morning for private testing.
KTM, currently behind in the premier category, has in fact rented the Alcaniz track to run Dani Pedrosa et Mika Kallio, which were joined by some riders from the Superbike world championship.
Yesterday, “Titanium” drove in 1'49.587, quite far from the record established in 2015 by Marc Márquez in 1'46.635. The ex-Honda driver was nevertheless the fastest, 4/10 ahead Chaz Davies on his Ducati from the Go Eleven team who had chosen to use the whole of Monday (Superbike riders are entitled to 10 full days of private testing), just like Eugene Laverty for his first ride with his new team RC Squadra Corse BMW.
Conversely, Tom Sykes et Michael van der Mark (BMW Works) as well as Jonas Folger (Bonovo MGM BMW) only entered the track in the afternoon.
SBK chronos for Monday:
Chaz Davies (GB), Ducati, 1'49.913 (qualifying tires)
Tom Sykes (GB), BMW, 1'51.007
Jonas Folger (D), BMW, 1'51.071
Eugene Laverty (IRL), BMW, 1'51.092
Michael van der Mark (NL), BMW, 1'51.339
Tuesday and Wednesday, while Chaz Davies left to join the other Ducati riders in testing from Thursday 6 in Navarre, Kawasaki (Jonathan Rea, Alex Lowes) and Yamaha (Toprak Razgatlioglu, Andrea Locatelli) will be present, while Honda will only run on Thursday and Friday with Alvaro Bautista et Leon Haslam.
Toprak Razgatlioglu was therefore able to get back on the handlebars of his Yamaha R1 this morning, after missing the last tests following a positive PCR test.
