Mugello, MotoGP, Qualifying: Valentino sets Mugello on fire!

The weather is still perfect on the Mugello circuit at the start of this series of sessions; pristine sky, 27° in the air, 47° on the track.

After his pole position acquired last year and his results during the two sessions carried out this year in the dry, Andrea Iannone is the favorite to start at the head of the grand prix, tomorrow at 14 p.m.

In the meantime, a table summarizes well the fact that the 2016 “tires-electronic” package seems almost as effective as its 2015 counterpart on this circuit, more or less 3 tenths ready.

To the isAfter the first three sessions, Iannone, Marquez, Vinales, Hernandez, Lorenzo, Petrucci, Smith, Rossi, Pedrosa and Pirro are automatically qualified for Q2.

FP4: Valentino Rossi prepares for the race and uses a Hard front / Medium rear configuration.
From the first minute, the two Ducatis are in the lead, with exactly the same top speed, 347,1, or 10 better than the Yamahas.
Iannone even reached 349.6 before returning to the box.
The first run ends with a hierarchy Iannone, Dovizioso, Vinales, Lorenzo, Crutchlow, Barbera, Pol Espargaro and Valentino Rossi, a classification in which will interfere Scott Redding 10 minutes from the checkered flag.
Meanwhile, Andrea Iannone improves the best time of this FP4 to 1'47.284, faster than last year. Behind, Valentino Rossi is positioned 2nd, but is in the crosshairs of Maverick Vinales who passes him on the clock.
Scott Redding and Yonny Hernandez complete this Top 6 in which we find 4 Ducatis.

At the last second, Valentino Rossi comes to tickle Andrea Iannone, less than a tenth of a second away; Obviously, the Doctor resolved his problems in T4.

Q1: A factory driver in Q1 is always a bit messy, so Andrea Dovizioso will have to spit on his hands, if only to justify his stay with the reds next year...

But it's Pol Espargaro who takes a first option for Q2, with a very good 1'47.159.
Behind, Cal Crutchlow apparently holds a solid position, but the second run shakes all that up; these two pilots fall while trying to follow the excellent pace imposed by Scott Redding and Aleix Espargaro, Andrea Dovizioso only managing to occupy third position. A difficult race ahead for the Ducati rider who will only start 13th tomorrow!

Q2: Iannone didn't need that, but he took Lorenzo in his sights and immediately set a 1'46.727.

Iannone, Vinales, Marquez, Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Petrucci, Aleix Espargaro and Rossi lead the proceedings after the first run.

The second saw the improvement of Iannone, in 1'46.607, but Vinales and Marquez remained within two tenths.

The final wrap-up sees Iannone once again take on Lorenzo's wheel, but, in the end, it is however Valentino Rossi, in the wake of his future teammate, who sets the stands on fire by taking pole position, in 1'46.504!
