On June 3, it will be two years since the Majorcan driver left us following an accident on the Barcelona circuit. Many tributes have been paid to him since then, and continue to take place on the island of Majorca, where he was from. Two days ago, his parents formalized the opening of a permanent museum to the public.

Since last June, an exhibition in honor of Luis Salom has been held at the Balearic Islands Sports Interpretation Center, within the Palma Arena Vélodrome. Visitors can find 72 items that belonged to him and marked his career: motorcycles, suits, gloves, trophies, photos, etc.

Faced with the success encountered by the population, who came in large numbers to pay tribute to their missing pilot, the parents of Luis Salom, José Luis and Maria Antònia, decided to sign a permanent loan contract at the Center, so that the exhibition becomes a museum .

Many personalities were present. Among them, the Cultural, Events and Sports Advisor of the Majorcan Government, Fanny Tur, the President of the Balearic Motorcycling Federation, Pedro Mas, the General Director of Sports, Carles Gonyalons, as well as the manager of the Palma Arena velodrome, Jaume Ordines , and the director of the Balearic Sports Foundation, Josep Abrines.

It was with great emotion and tears in her eyes that Luis Salom's mother spoke: “All I want is for my son to continue to exist and for everyone to remember him with affection and respect. »

Fanny Tur also spoke, describing the pilot as “reference, both on a human level and on a sporting level. » It is for this reason that the museum will also have the mission of organizing guided tours for schools and associations. Since June, 500 students have already visited the exhibition, a sign of the Majorcan pilot's influence on young people.
