Talk about MV Agusta in competition, it is necessarily associating the Varese brand with a certain Giacomo Agostini. Indeed, good communication recently announced the manufacturer's return to a world of Grands Prix that had been deserted for 42 years. The living legend “Ago” was even associated with this approach which will be carried out in Moto2 and with numerous partners. Precisely, that’s what’s a bit of a problem for the man with the fifteen crowns…

Asked by Motoracing, Giacomo Agostini first invites us not to be fooled: “ a return has been announced, but it must be recognized that there will not be many MV Agustas in this project. But it’s also the Moto2 regulations that want that. It requires an assembly of different technologies. Of course, it would be better to win with a bike completely made by MV Agusta, from the engine to the chassis to the team. Fans of the brand will know that this will not be a real MV Agusta ».

He pursues : " this will be different than in Superbike where the motorcycle is clearly identified. For example, in Moto2, the engine will be a Triumph. Who will get the credit for victory? For the moment I do not see the interest that a factory can have in participating in this category. It cannot even develop an engine for a MotoGP project for example. Finally, to be clear, we are here more in a marketing operation than anything else ».

It will be recalled that KTM is currently in Moto2 and wins with a Honda engine and will continue its involvement with Triumph mechanics. The Austrians therefore find it of interest, but it is also true that, for them, the important thing is to be present in the three categories to constitute a solid sector. In the case of MV Agusta we are far from this pattern.

After being critical, Ago is lenient: “ now the important thing is to make a date in the world championship. You never know how things will develop. Furthermore, the Forward team is undoubtedly one of the best organized teams at the MotoGP level. They will be able to work on the chassis, it will have a certain charm. We're only at the beginning, now let's wait to see the bike on the track. It will be a great experience. Let's give them time to work before saying whether the Varese factory was right or wrong ".
