Roughly speaking, three weeks separate the final tests at the Red Bull Ring and the first preparations for the Grand Prix which will take place there. Which is exactly the time it takes Michelin to build new tires (when there is no emergency, like after Argentina).
Because new tires will have to be built, following the findings made during last week's tests, in particular on the gum-eating Ducati...
Piero Taramasso explains why bikesportnews: “We discovered that the track has a lot of grip and the track tends to heat up a lot. The asphalt is new, and, being black, it heats up a lot. We reached the temperature of 50 degrees, which is much higher than we expected. The rear tires suffered a lot and, for the race, we will have to provide more resistant solutions.
When we face a new track, we usually start with the softer option, then, step by step, we move on to the Medium and the harder solutions. It is true that on the first day the tires did not last more than 10 laps, but already on the second day the situation improved a lot thanks to better track conditions with more rubber on the track, the settings of the motorcycles, and the fact that we used harsher solutions. As Andrea Dovizioso said, it will not be an easy task, but the test was important to understand what type of tires we have to bring in August."
