During the press conference presenting the future Finnish Grand Prix organized on the KymiRing circuit, Carmelo Ezpeleta, the boss of Dorna, put forward the possibility of the first event in 2019, but without certainty.

In fact, it seems that promoters Timo Pohjola and Kari O. Sohlberg might not be ready in time with this 4,6 km track located 110 km northeast of Helsinki. The major problem is financial, because so far only 8 million euros have been invested in the construction of infrastructure, out of a planned total of 30 to 40 million. In addition, the long northern winters always complicate construction problems.

Dorna is open to proposals and accepts that in the first year some installations are only temporary, as has often been the case on other circuits. This could be the case for the press room and the circuit restaurant, while the stands would be made of permanent materials, as would the Race Management building. Some forums would be provisional, others permanent. The organizers plan to be able to accommodate 60 spectators.

The contract between the Finnish organizers and Dorna provides for a possible postponement of the first Grand Prix in 2020, and it seems possible that we will move in this direction.
