The Sachsenring circuit, which received new asphalt ten years ago, will benefit from a new coating from next month. Track conditions should therefore be good for the next Grand Prix which will take place on July 16.

The Sachsenring is a completely atypical circuit, in the sense that it was built quietly, in hiding and above all not being spotted by environmentalists. They believed that there were already more than enough circuits in Germany (Nürburgring, Hockenheim, Lausitzring, Oschersleben, etc.) and that there was no point in building new ones. No further authorization was then granted.

Some smart guys in the East of Germany decided to build a track anyway, near the place where the East German Grand Prix took place from 1958 to 1972, and which was precisely called the Sachsenring . There were huge numbers of spectators (often 300), with the region offering relatively few other distractions. The circuit was officially built as a driving school track. The route was so tortuous that the first year the 000s at the beginning went faster than the 250s.

This year, the track is currently in very poor condition, due to the winter and the poor quality of the asphalt. A renovation will therefore begin on March 10, lasting around two months and at a cost of three million, covered by the Saxony region, ADAC and Sachsenring-Rennstrecken Management GmbH. The majority of costs are borne by the region with two million euros.

The Le Mans surface has been redone, but Dunlop and Michelin will be able to test it during the 24 Hours. For the Sachsenring, the answer is less obvious: On what date, with which motorcycles?
