Rising MotoGP star Pedro Acosta has signed a “multi-year” contract that will see him return to orange with the Red Bull KTM team for 2025. Acosta, a two-time world champion in just three seasons in the Grand's intermediate categories Prix, has impressed everyone this season in MotoGP with sister team GASGAS Tech3. The 20-year-old Spaniard enters the Italian Grand Prix this weekend already positioning himself as the best driver in RC16, with podiums at Portimao and COTA, and a sixth place in the world championship.
As expected, Acosta will now join the KTM factory team in 2025. “ It was important for me to continue with KTM, and to see the whole project and the story so far and how we have grown in racing, " said Acosta. " Change to orange, it's like coming home. The way they are growing and improving over the last two years is what also makes me stay for the next two years."
Pete Beirer, director of KTM Motorsports, added: “ It is a great pleasure for us to announce this news. We're as excited as everyone else when Pedro shows off his speed and personality on the track. It seems this boy is gaining a lot of new fans all over the world. From the first days of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup we could see that he was a special rider. Someone who does things differently and with the strongest mentality to forge their own path.”
KTM a priori locks its places within the factory team while Marc Marquez is still on the market
“That makes him unique in this MotoGP world. It gives us a lot of energy and power to take this journey with him through our teams and our motorcycles. I also want to mention our KTM GP Academy and the work of people like Aki Ajo with Pedro. It's super cool that we'll be together for a few more years. He has a very big future in MotoGP and we are really looking forward to the next chapter of his career with us."
With current Red Bull KTM rider Brad Binder already signed until 2026, Acosta should integrate alongside the South African, at the expense of Jack Miller. Miller said he was willing to trade places MotoGP with Acosta and to ride for Tech3, which also has factory RC16s. But with Ducati approached to choose Jorge Martin as a factory teammate Francesco Bagnaia in 2024, speculation is rife that Marc Marquez might consider a red KTM…
