We informed you about it yesterday, but it's now official; Loris Baz will be absent from the Catalan Grand Prix.

Last Sunday, during the Italian Grand Prix, Loris Baz was hit at the first corner by Alvaro Bautista. Although the Spaniard escaped unscathed, the Frenchman suffered a serious injury to his right foot. Loris fractured four metatarsals and dislodged the fifth with torn ligaments.

Placed under morphine then under general anesthesia at the circuit hospital, the injury was able to be reduced. He then traveled to Meyrin in Switzerland to the La Tour hospital to undergo an operation on Wednesday in the hands of Dr. Adrien Ray.

Loris will miss the next meeting on the calendar in Barcelona and is aiming for a return to Assen. Until then, several days of rest are planned before beginning a period of intensive rehabilitation.

Loris Baz: “The operation went very well. Dr. Ray did an excellent job and I want to thank him. The injury is unfortunately more serious than it was initially diagnosed: 3 plates were placed with 15 screws to hold the first metatarsals. Two nails were added to hold the fourth. They will be removed by the end of May. At this time, we do not yet know how long my recovery will last. You have to wait a few days and observe the evolution. For the moment, we are talking about a period of six weeks. So I will miss the Catalan Grand Prix, but I will do everything to come back to Assen. I have to lie down with my foot in the air to drain as much as possible. In a week, I will have a first check-up with Dr. Finn Mahler who followed me for my vertebral fractures a few years ago. I keep my morale up, these are the risks of the job. And then keeping a smile is the best therapy! I will take the time it takes to be back at 100% and achieve good results. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire Avintia Racing team, the Mugello circuit hospital, the Mobile Clinic and of course my parents, my friends who support me 100% in this ordeal. »

We wish Loris the speediest recovery!
