Who to bring up alongside Pecco Bagnaia? A difficult question, which we are trying to answer. Yesterday, we presented the case of Enea Bastianini in a dedicated section, found here.

III) Martín, the logical choice

On the other side, Jorge Martín not in top form. The 3 Moto2018 world champion's main strengths are numerous, starting with tremendous speed in qualifying. He can be considered one of the most dangerous on Saturdays, with two poles in 2022. More fiery than Bastianini, he only has one Grand Prix victory but is much more consistent in his performance, with five podiums compared to two victories. excluded. Jorge is an extraordinary talent, noticed for longer than a “Bestia”. If he only has 6,36 points per race, this goes to 11,66 when he finishes in the points, so not so far from the 13,12 of Enea despite the gap of 35 points overall. Martín also finished ahead of his competitor more often than the other way around when both did not fall (In 3 1).

Another interesting advanced statistic: In the four races where both do not go to the mat, Martín is in front with a gap of 4''407 on average, far from being negligible.

Martinator is a Pramac rider, “closer” to the official handlebars than Bastianini despite the latter’s arguments. If it is true that it had the 2022 package, the latter does not seem to be so well born, so not necessarily an advantage compared to Enea's GP21, well known to engineers. Certainly, he has more falls/white results but was won by Bagnaia in Qatar.

However, it is not without its flaws. The Spaniard often falls, and is largely dominated by his teammate Zarco (114 points to 70) on the same machine. He too has had checkered results, and no victories this year. Objectively, he had a worse season than Bastianini. Prone to injuries, he has already missed numerous career races, including four in 2021.

IV) Conclusion

According to U.S, Jorge Martín is the more obvious choice. Beyond the arguments put forward previously, Jorge gives more of this impression of “generational talent” than Bastianini, despite the fact that the latter has had a fantastic end to the season. Having Martín as an official driver is the assurance of qualifying very high, and of developing enormous potential that has been noted for years. You will just have to be careful of his physical fragility, which could become a problem.

This allows Enea to be placed at Pramac with a machine from the current year. bringing Bastia up is a little too risky for MotoGP, especially as the Italian's string of average results works against him just before signing. Furthermore, this would not create frustration for the two talents because each would gain ground.
