MotoGP you

En MotoGP, some statistics are hard to believe. We often present fun ones to you, or the most instructive. The one we are going to detail for you today falls into the first category, and will call upon your memories. Are you ready for this little MotoGP bubble? Let's go !

In Barcelona, Aleix Espargaró et Maverick Vinales were brilliant. At the finish, the two Spaniards – what's more, two Catalans – allowed Aprilia to achieve their first double in the premier category. But can you tell us who was the last team to do the same in MotoGP? This should come back to you quickly, no, after all, doubles are not that common.

So, are you drying out? Don't worry, we too had totally forgotten before looking on the internet, our savior. Do you want a few more seconds? Come on, the answer after this magnificent image of Aleix Espargaró on the podium.

So have you find it ?

Already, we have to go back to the 2021 season. Yes, despite Ducati's domination in 2022, neither the reds nor Pramac Racing have achieved the slightest double. It is Honda Repsol, quite simply. Astonished, you wonder how this is possible given the team's poor form since Marc Márquez's injury at Jerez in 2020. However, you necessarily remember the race in question; This is the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, where Fabio Quartararo was crowned world champion! But why have we forgotten it to this extent?

A strange race

This is, in fact, Marc Márquez's last victory to date. He was followed by Pol Espargaró, his teammate at the time; for his only podium this season. Enea Bastianini also got on the box, riding in a team split in two with Luca Marini on a Ducati VR46 on one side and him on an Avintia.

An impressive number of notable events happened during this round, and that's probably why we completely forgot about it. First, Fabio played his title. On a track that he likes, Pecco Bagnaia had to hope for a miracle to delay the coronation of “El Diablo”, or rather, to win. So, he tried to fly away, but an exceptional Marc Márquez prevented him from doing so. Under pressure, Bagnaia fell into the lead, which did not help his reputation.

At the same time, we followed Fabio Quartararo, who was well placed for a long time before being caught up by Enea Bastianini. The Italian was on fire that day, and fortunately the Frenchman did not need to defend his position to win the world title. His fourth place was more than enough.

Everything happened very quickly, the action was condensed. After Pecco's fall, the race in front no longer had so much importance because “Pollycio” was dropped by his teammate; he finished almost five seconds behind. Miguel Oliveira, KTM official, retired without ever being shown the action! This shows the level of tension in Misano that day. It's almost ironic. Despite excellent performances from Pecco Bagnaia in 2022, coupled with good results from Jack Miller, the factory Ducati team has not achieved what Honda has done since 2021.

Other recent doubles

However, it doesn't matter much. Remember the Spanish round, in Jerez. Fabio Quartararo, taken by compartment syndrome while he was well in the lead, tumbled down the rankings. Jack Miller took advantage, and he was followed by Pecco Bagnaia.

For Yamaha, this is between Ducati and Honda; we have to go back to the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix, won by Fabio Quartararo. Maverick Vinales, only two races before being punished by his ex-employer, was on the second step of the podium while starting from pole. Another absolutely frightening statistic; Since this date, precisely, Monster Energy Yamaha Racing has not placed two bikes on the podium, let alone 1-2. This happened five times in 2016.

On the other hand, you may remember the last Suzuki factory double, during the 2020 European Grand Prix. This is the only victory in the premier category for Joan Mir, and he was followed, of course, by Álex Rins. For KTM, this has never happened before; but it didn't go far this season at Jerez, where Brad Binder placed second; Jack Miller, third. The infernal Pecco Bagnaia cut short all the dreams of the Austrian team.

Did you find the answer? Don't you find that weird? Tell us in the comments!
