The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the ideal opportunity to bring together great icons, as happened during this 2022 edition, which took place last weekend. The event is a true celebration of motorsport, both for two and four wheels, and as far as motorcycling is concerned, it has witnessed a historic meeting between motorcycle myths, bringing together Mick Doohan, Kevin Schwantz, Kenny Roberts, Dani Pedrosa and Wayne Rainey.

It all started with Wayne Rainey starring in a unique moment: the American got back on the Yamaha YZR500 with which he won so much and with which he lost so much. “I have no words to express what I feel,” declared one of the protagonists, a certain Dani Pedrosa. Because the act brought together motorcycling legends from yesterday and today, and the likeable Spanish rider, who retired from competition in 2018, did his demo ride on a 16 KTM RC2022 , the bike he has been developing since leaving competition.

Yamaha had of course thought of everything, adapting the YZR500 to Wayne Rayney's paraplegia. To do this, a system was created to adapt the gear change to the level of the left half handlebar, some connections were placed at the level of the tank so that it is held without having to force with its legs, and also some straps to be able to hold the legs.

And so on Saturday, Wayne Rainey was escorted on a victory lap by some of the most memorable names in motorcycling to date: Kevin Schwantz, Mickael Doohan, Kenny Roberts and Dani Pedrosa.

" It's incredible. I was very young when I saw them fighting together on the circuits and now I am with them. I don't have words to express what I feel. It's impressive, a great moment, a dream come true. It’s a very cool event”, commented Dani Pedrosa in front of the official microphones of the Goodwood Festival. And it is that never before has an event of this caliber taken place, in which several of the most remarkable legends of motorcycling came together for a few demonstration laps.

At the Goodwood Festival Of Speed, Dani Pedrosa was also able to meet, among others, John McGuinness, who competed this year in his last Tourist Trophy, and the dominator of the last TT and holder of the current island record, Peter Hickman.

As if that wasn't enough, Giacomo Agostini, who just turned 80, rode his legendary MV Agusta 500, and Jeremy McWilliams also demonstrated on the three-cylinder 2-stroke Proton KR3.
