Yesterday, June 30, the Bologna hospital center, thanks to funds raised by Gresini Racing, celebrated a great success: The donation of three new simulation mannequins which enrich the technological heritage of the training center of the emergency department of the 'Azienda USL of Bologna.

For the occasion, from the Gresini Racing headquarters in Faenza, Fausto's family, the president of the region Stefano Bonaccini and many MotoGP fans were able to experience "live" the use of the three simulation dummies, equipped with specific technologically advanced accessories that make it possible to safely recreate multiple clinical scenarios and, thus, train medical and nursing staff as if they were on a real critical patient.

During the event, which was organized to thank each donor, the Advisor for Health Policy Raffaele Donini, the Director General of the local health unit of Bologna Paolo Bordon, and some professionals from the health service team emergencies, led by Giovanni Gordini, participated in the liaison from the Maggiore hospital.

Dr. Nicola Cilloni, head of the COVID intensive care unit and friend of Fausto Gresini:
« It is not always enough to do everything possible to save a patient's life. When I started working in a hospital department as a young doctor, I thought my job would be to save lives. Over the years, I realized that the main goal should be healing: Listening, crying, joking, living even the last moments of the struggle for life alongside my patients. This is what I tried to do, with the entire medical team that I represent, by remaining close to Fausto. But he, who for me was not only a patient but also a friend with whom I shared a passion for MotoGP for years, taught us much more than all our efforts. He taught us to remember that beyond the pain, beyond the suffering, there was his team: His family, his employees, his pilots... He, until his last breath, inquired about them. He told us about them. Knowing that they wanted to leave us a tangible sign of their generosity on this earth helps us try to overcome the failure of medicine on Fausto, as well as on all the patients we were unable to save during this pandemic. The solidarity movement set in motion by Fausto and his family is a real remedy for the wounds inflicted by Covid on the health professionals that we are. Our thanks will never be enough to match your gesture. »

Paolo Bordon, General Director of Azienda USL in Bologna:
« Stories like that of Fausto Gresini are the expression of a health system that cares and is in turn supported by local businesses that want to actively contribute to its growth and innovation. As Azienda USL of Bologna, we commit ourselves every day on several fronts to try to guarantee the best care for the sick, while paying attention to all those close to them. Although painfully affected by the loss of Fausto, today we can only be doubly grateful to his family and to all MotoGP enthusiasts who wanted to participate in the memory of the good friend and/or colleague. -loved, giving a breath of fresh air to the “Gambale” Training Center of the Maggiore Hospital. For the Azienda USL of Bologna, forging such a deep bond with the families of those we have lost represents another important step: although we cannot do anything to escape death, we are convinced that we have demonstrated the meaning the most human and intimate of the word “care”, placing the patient and their community at the center. This is the path that we want to take alongside each patient to renew together, step by step, the hospital and local health, relying on training and research which are the driving force of the future of our health. »

Nadia Padovani, Owner and Team Principal Gresini Racing:
« I would like to thank all the medical staff of the intensive care unit of the Ospedale Maggiore Carlo Alberto Pizzardi of Bologna and in particular the chief doctor Nicola Cilloni for his great professionalism, his humanity, his continuous presence and the constant moral support which he brought to my husband Fausto and our family throughout the long period of hospitalization for complications related to covid. Unfortunately, the course of the disease did not go as we all hoped. During his hospitalization, Fausto had expressed his intention to make a donation to the service to support the medical staff... My sons and I felt it was important to carry out his wishes and we immediately set about creating a bank account for the donations to the hospital in memory of our dear Fausto, who gave so much to all of us and to the world of motor sports. I would therefore like to thank everyone who contributed to the creation of a simulation training room at Ospedale Maggiore because, thanks to their donations, we were able to purchase computerized mannequins and courses to train health personnel emergency maneuvers on patients. The simulation room was named after Fausto Gresini: We are all very proud and honored, as are, I think, all those who made the creation of this highly specialized space possible. This thank you is not only mine, but that of all my children Lorenzo, Luca, Alice and Agnese. »
