Jorge Lorenzo

It has become a mania, a sort of movement initiated by Valentino Rossi which has spread to Dani Pedrosa and which now affects Jorge Lorenzo. So many world champions and Grand Prix legends have ditched leather to put on a fire-retardant suit. Because we learn, Por Fuera will in turn get behind the wheel, a powerful car which is not an Audi R8 or a Lamborghini, but a Porsche...

Jorge Lorenzo had already declared his love for this vehicle and this competition, however, he remained virtual in his living room and his TV. An initiation completed since the Mallorcan has just made public an agreement with the Q8 Hi Perform to compete this year full time in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italy. This is a one-make championship featuring the new 911 GT3 (992). The five-time motorcycle world champion promises to compete in a total of six races between May and October.

Jorge Lorenzo has already had the opportunity to share an official test day in November last year, on the Franciacorta track, a closed-door test day in which Jorge maintained his first contact with the hypercar which he will therefore drive in 2022. The Spaniard will play in the ranks of the official Q8 Hi Perform team, a structure sponsored by the Kuwaiti oil company, which is also the main sponsor of this championship. Jorge begins this new facet as a racing driver with a lot of ambition and thirst for victories, and although he knows that he will be a rookie in this paddock, he clarifies his intentions before the start of the season.

Jorge Lorenzo: “ a new exciting stage of my life begins«

« An exciting new stage in my life begins" , said Lorenzo during the presentation of the Porsche 911 GT3 (992) that he will drive this year. “ Thank you very much to the Q8 Hi Perform team for welcoming me and choosing me as an official driver, I can't wait to get going and prove my worth behind the wheel. We have a strong, united and ambitious team: round after round, our objective must always be to grow and win as many races as possible ".

Gherardo Bisi, marketing director of Q8, does not hide his enthusiasm at this star signing: “ the victory of the last edition showed that we are a team that has what it takes to compete and win. I am a fan of engines and I have always followed MotoGP and its riders, a mixture of talent, concentration and competitiveness. Jorge reflects the professional we were looking for, he had been on our radar for a long time. We chose it convinced that it can achieve excellent goals even on four wheels."

The beginnings of Jorge Lorenzo as a new Porsche driver will take place in a month at the Imola circuit (May 7-8), venue for the first round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia. Before 13th April, Monza will host an official test in which all the cup entries will participate, including #99. The season will continue on some tracks known to Jorge, such as Misano (June 4-5) and Mugello (July 16-17), and others totally new to him, like Vallelunga (September 17-18), Franciacorta (October 1 -2) and finally Monza, the event that will put the finishing touch on the season on the weekend of October 8 and 9.
