Two years after his retirement he continues to be one of the most popular riders in the MotoGP paddock. Since this 2019 Valencia Grand Prix during which Jorge Lorenzo has hung up his suit, his presence in the World Championship continues to be very present, notably as a commentator on his own channel YouTube. The Spaniard is still linked to the sport that gave him so much and expressed it in an exclusive interview with ABC.

À 34 years, Jorge Lorenzo had to change his lifestyle from being an elite athlete to one who enjoys life without worries. “ What I miss most are all the people I knew, the friends I made during eighteen years in the world championship and, above all, winning. What I miss the least is the pressure I was under and the injuries ". His daily life is very different from the one he had when he was a pilot. “ I usually try to sleep a lot, get up, eat breakfast and spend the mornings working out, some days more cardio and others more weights. Then I look a little at investments, the stock market and in the afternoon I usually have off. When I travel, I try to follow the same routine as much as possible ».

He left behind a life that gave him a lot but which also filled him with great sacrifices. “ I think the hardest part is getting there: winning a race and then a championship. Then everything becomes easier because you already know that it is possible to achieve it, you just have to repeat it, because even if you have doubts about whether you can or not, you think that you've already done it once and it makes it easier to stay motivated, which is quite complicated sometimes ».

And it even made him wonder if it was worth so much sacrifice. “ There were a few periods where I thought about quitting, especially with serious injuries that make you wonder if it's really worth risking your life to achieve your dreams, but when the days pass and I think coldly, I always try again. The last time I injured my vertebrae was when I was 22, that's when I thought about everything ».

Lorenzo describes the Jorge of ten years from now

However, it is clear that if he had not been a pilot, sport would have continued to be his life. “ I would have liked to do something related to sport or design, a job that involves creativity because I have always had a lot of imagination since I was little.” He cites his references. “I really liked Max Biaggi, Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Muhammad Ali… And in fashion, even if I don't have a particular name, I can say that in terms of brands I love Gucci, Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton ».

And what is luxury for Jorge Lorenzo ? “IThere are more superficial luxuries and others which are not so much and which are much more important. For me it is a luxury to enjoy free time and not need to work ". And what will it look like in ten years? “ With grayer hair, older although I hope healthy, happy and in good health, which is ultimately what matters most ».
