Second game de theinterview de la legend Italian Andrea Dovizioso with motosan.es

About Jesus Sanchez Santos / Motosan.es

When Andrea Dovizioso gives his opinion, he says very interesting and coherent things. If you read the first part of our interview with him here, we now offer you the second part where he addresses various subjects linked to MotoGP news: the domination of his former brand, Ducati, technological advances, the Sprint Race, Concessions to the Japanese and the situation of Marc Márquez.

Regarding Ducati's current situation, what do you think of its current dominance in MotoGP?
“At the moment, Ducati is dominating because it has started working on completely different aspects than the other teams. Today, they are reaping the fruits of this work. MotoGP has changed, it has taken a different direction of development: before we only focused on two or three important aspects, now there are many more details, especially at the engineering level, which indicates a development that resembles to that of F1 (although the car is obviously different). The other European teams have aligned themselves with the work done by Ducati and I think, on the other hand, this is the reason why the Japanese teams have been left far behind. »

What do you think about there being so many fins, aerodynamics and holeshot devices, and the fact that it seems that the part of the motorcycle becomes more important than that of the pilot?
“Let's just say that, from both an engineering and motorcycle manufacturer's point of view, an exceptional job was done, as it was understood that new paths could be taken to take MotoGP to the next level. As a rider, honestly, after riding different bikes, let's say I like MotoGP a little less now. The bikes are much faster, more stable and more powerful, but the rider has a little less influence over the whole thing. This is, in my opinion, the negative side of the latest developments in MotoGP, and this is the reason why everyone is closer. Of course, the level of the riders is very high, but I have the impression that today's motorcycles allow you to make fewer mistakes and therefore be faster. The very good ones remain the best on the track, but we are already talking about hundredths of a second. »

Do you think we should limit development in this regard and give more power to the driver?
“In my opinion, we should have the possibility to change the rules (as F1 teaches us). Engineers are very good at interpreting the rules and, in a limited time, they manage to evolve. Perhaps it would be easier not to make contracts too long, to have the possibility of changing the rules when necessary. For example, right now I think some things should be changed. I understand that the teams' investments are huge and therefore, evaluating this aspect, it is not fair to change the rules too often, but I think finding a compromise is the way to go. »

This year we are inaugurating the Sprint races. Do you think they are too dangerous or a big spectacle?
“The Sprint race is a little more dangerous, but that's normal because the race is short, the tire management is more controlled and it allows you to be 100% from start to finish. The format could be the right one, but I think it is at the level of the regulations that we need to work to make changes. »

Dorna has confirmed that it will soon grant Concessions to Honda and Yamaha to help them emerge from the results crisis in which they find themselves. Do you think it is right that they do this?
“This situation has already existed in the past and it is objective that at the moment, Japanese houses suffer from a significant gap compared to European houses. Support from Dorna could be an option to bridge this gap, but I don't know the details and timeline of the regulations and so can't really express a complete opinion. »

Marc Marquez was a formidable rival. What do you think of the situation he has been going through in recent years since his injury at Jerez in 2020?
“Marc is going through a very complicated situation, after so many years of domination, he is really suffering a lot because of all the situations that have happened to him. In my opinion, while he's not back to 100% yet, he's very close. Unfortunately, he has to deal with a bike that, for the moment, is not competitive and, therefore, I imagine that he will have to make decisions evaluating these aspects. »

Finally, who are the riders you consider talented enough to dominate MotoGP in the coming seasons?
“Pecco is making the difference in MotoGP at the moment because he has more cards to play than the others and, in addition to his speed and talent, he has the mentality to manage himself during the season. So for the moment he is the reference rider, but I would like to see other riders with more competitive bikes to be able to compete with Pecco. »
