Going from two to four wheels is never easy, even if you're a Motorsport Champion. Jorge Lorenzo is well aware of this, and over the weekend he made his debut as a wild card driver in the Porsche Supercup, an event organized as part of the weekend of the highly anticipated Emilia Romagna Grand Prix of Formula 1.

As if facing the 32 wolves of the Porsche Supercup wasn't enough, Jorge Lorenzo made his debut at Imola behind the wheel of the 911 GT3 RSR in the rain. In these conditions, resisting was already winning… and the Majorcan resisted.

The five-time motorcycling world champion finished Saturday's qualifying in penultimate place, 3 seconds from pole position, accumulating valuable kilometers and a lot of experience in the category. In the race it didn't go any better: in a race conditioned by heavy rain, the final victory went to pole sitter Dylan Pereira, who preceded Larry Ten Voorde and Harry King.

Jorge Lorenzo finished the race in 31st and penultimate place, after a tight battle at the bottom of the standings which involved a handful of drivers. A weekend, that of the five-time world champion, marked by rain: “In practice I didn't drive much because of the water falling on the track and the numerous interruptions that this caused, it was important for me to accumulate laps” , he said on Saturday.

In these conditions and with his limited experience both with the GT3 Cup, which has no ABS or traction control, the track on which he had never driven before and the Dantesque conditions for the race, it was practically impossible to do better. At the end of the race, he commented as follows: “First wet race of my life on four wheels... Not a good position but I had fun and did a few more kilometers for the experience! “

The Majorcan will get behind the wheel of a 911 – in this case the 992 hp 3 GT510 Cup – again at Imola and in May, as part of the Italian Porsche Carrera Cup, a competition in which he will participate in its entirety.
