The worst is behind him, but Marc Márquez still does not seem able to aim for the MotoGP title again. If on the one hand his right arm is finally back and no longer poses a problem, on the other there is a Honda which is still not competitive enough.

He feels ready to fight for podiums and victories, but his RC213V is not yet. There is a lot of work to be done at HRC to enable it to aspire to the top places. A lot of effort has been put into the new bike over the past few months, but the few days of pre-season testing are not enough to iron out all aspects.

Marquez feels physically recovered
Marc Márquez, interviewed by the Corriere della Sera, remains calm despite the fact that he cannot challenge Ducati and confirms that he feels good physically: “ We are not close to the leaders – he said – but there's no point in worrying. It's better to stay focused. Regardless, I see progress. In winter, I found my former level, all I have to do is improve my racing performance. In the first 4 or 5 races we will see how competitive I am. Win the title? It's difficult, but that's always the goal. »

Speaking of the Ducatis, he cannot help but recognize that they currently represent the reference point of the MotoGP grid: “ They started doing great work since 2017, he comments, and the title was only a matter of time. Not only Bagnaia, but the other Ducati are always at the top. It's a wake-up call to other builders: Learn, improve, study. »

Márquez and the fear of retirement
Marc reiterated that the idea of retirement was something real, while the condition of his right arm was precarious and there was no certainty for the future: “ Yes, I still want to cry thinking about it. I talked about it for a month with my father and my friend-assistant José. That was one of the possibilities. But since I am an athlete and an ambitious person, I looked for one last chance with the fourth operation. »

This fourth successful operation saved the career of the Cervera phenomenon. From 2020 onwards, a few mistakes were made, some of them by himself, which compromised his future in MotoGP. But in the end, everything worked out for the best and he is physically OK. Now it's up to Honda to give him a competitive RC213V.

The relationship with Valentino Rossi
A recurring theme is the relationship with Valentino Rossi, now destroyed after the events of 2015. Today, it is unthinkable that the two will make peace. However, Marc Márquez doesn’t rule out talking to the Doctor again one day: “ Never say never. It won't happen tomorrow, but maybe in 20-30 years, who knows... »

Marc Márquez also addressed the subject in the series “ All In » on Amazon Prime Video. He removed a few stones from his shoes as he told his full version of the facts. Valentino Rossi himself had been invited by the director to make an intervention, but there was a refusal. We will see if one day the relationship will change between the two or if everything will remain as it is. Both have other priorities, there is no doubt about that.
