The former Italian rider is still closely linked to the world of motorcycles, although he is now out of competition, after his retirement at the end of the 2021 season. According to data provided by the media 'Football and Finance‘, Valentino Rossi closed the year 2022 with an income of 38,5 million euros, thanks to the profits of its companies.

'Il Dottore' owns shares in the following 5 companies linked to the world championship: Test Track SL, which is the company that manages the motocross track (the 46th ranch) where its riders train. Comes next VR/46 SL, the company that manages and exploits its image. Then VR/46 Team et VR/46 Riders Academy, two world championship teams managed by Valentino. And finally VR/46 Racing Apparel, the company that handles merchandising sales.

Overall, the VR/46 company that generated the most revenue (excluding expenses) for Valentino Rossi in 2022 is the VR/46 Mooney Team. This is the company that manages the top level team, in MotoGP, which includes the Italian riders Marco Bezzecchi et Luca Marini, the latter being Valentino's half-brother. In total, the MotoGP team contributed 16,8 million euros to the “46”. This company is followed by VR/46 Racing Apparel, the merchandising company, which brought in 15,5 million euros.

In third position in the income ranking, we find VR/46 SL, which generated 3,4 million euros. In fourth and penultimate position, the school of its pilots VR/46 Riders Academy, which generated 2 million euros. Finally, the one which generated the least income is Test Track SL, the one who operates her ranch, which generated €764.

Losses for Valentino Rossi, profits for Dorna

Although this is a considerable amount of revenue, the “holding” of Valentino Rossi ended the year 2022 in the red, its expenses amounting to 40,2 million euros (see accounts here). According to calculations, the losses amount to almost 2 million euros.

As for Dorna Sports, the company that manages the MotoGP world championship, it would have finished the year 2022 with a record turnover of 400 million euros. This figure is 15% higher than in 2021. Thus, Dorna already exceeded revenues before the Covid-19 pandemic.
