Arriving on a circuit which was rather hostile to him with a lead of 21 points in the championship, Johann Zarco's objective was above all to emerge in a substantially identical situation, two races from the end of the season.
And that's what he did!
So of course, some will say that he was in slight difficulty and that it lacked a little panache. Yes, it's true, and he readily admits it himself.
But let's not forget one thing; there is a Moto2 World Champion every year, but to date, no one has yet done the double! The French driver's goal is no longer to win races at all costs, but to avoid the kind of small mistake that led Alex Rins to be overtaken by Tom Lüthi in the world rankings...
Johann zarco: “Today's race was difficult. I wanted to attack for better positions but, in the dry, I was at the limit and I couldn't push any more. I saw that Rins had fallen, so it was a good opportunity to take points. I closed the group fighting for 8th place and I wanted to pass them, but I was at the limit. I was slow in certain corners and therefore had to compensate elsewhere which did not allow me to gain positions. It's a shame because I would have liked more points, but the race went well. I was able to increase my gap with Rins, and now it's Lüthi who is second.
In Malaysia we will have our first chance to win the title and that is something that motivates me. I will give my all for this.”
Johann Zarco now has a 22-point lead over Tom Lüthi.
