A sunset worthy of a postcard was followed this morning by a completely different panorama: 14° in the air and on the track, sticky skies, wind that would chill a penguin and a little scattered but very present rain. Welcome to Phillip Island!

One of the particularities of this circuit is that none of its records date from last year, and this has nothing to do with the resurfacing of the track which took place in December 2012. This is rather to the weather conditions and those of today are obviously not conducive to anything in this area.

As fairly heavy rain is expected during the day, most drivers take to the track quite quickly because if the ground is very wet, the rain really holds up. However, it is not the immediate choice of Brad Binder, the only driver on the podium last year still present on the circuit this year.

After a few laps to get the feel of the Australian track, Aron canet sets a first milestone in 1'50.825. Enea Bastianini also takes the measure of turn #4, but in another way…

At mid-session, it is preceded by Nicolo Bulega in 1'49.589, while behind him we find Andrea Migno, Niccolo Antonelli, Gabriel Rodrigo, Enea Bastianini, Juanfran Guevara, Jules Danilo, Jorge Navarro and Lorenzo Dalla Porta.

Phillip Oettl also makes a mistake in the same turn “4, without seriousness while Brad Binder rewards us with a spectacular recovery in which his Ktm will lose the integrity of its bubble…

On this subject, we note that one of the Ktms from the Sky VR46 team is equipped with a sort of pinlock under the screen.

The rain gets heavier while Tatsuki Suzuki, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Bo Bendsneyder take advantage of this to enter the Top 8 ahead Jules Danilo.

The last minutes are the opportunity to Fabio Spiranelli, at turn 3, Maria Herrera, at 8, Lorenzo Petrarca, at 10 and John McPhee, always at 10 to increase the number of minor falls, while no one will improve the reference time.

Jules Danilo finished 11th, Fabio Quartararo 21e.
