Electric vehicles are over 100 years old and each new technological advancement theoretically brings them closer to a true world championship. As far as cars are concerned, things are even going rather well, with the Formula E which already has 12 rounds on its calendar.

For motorcycles, it is more difficult, mainly because of the volume and weight of the batteries…

Spectacular attempts take place from time to time, such as that of Mugen (company created by the son of Soichiro Honda) who will line up this year not only the usual John McGuinness  but also the charismatic Guy Martin at the TT on the Isle of Man on the handlebars of a machine developing 122 hp thanks to 370 volt lithium batteries.

But the world championship on the circuit has fizzled out and the engineers now prefer to concentrate on the lightest motorcycles possible which, even if they are less efficient, will be capable of competing in races lasting more than 5 laps...

After an interesting attempt by the French company HKer, today it is up to the Italians to present a project intended to be included in the Spanish and Italian championships.

Francesco Pileri, the brother of the 125 1975 cc world champion Paolo Pileri, thus announces a presentation in August of an “electric Moto3” intended to race next year thanks to Italian engineering and Indian capital.

The project seems ambitious to us and no technical details have been disclosed about the bike, so we must be careful with this information, especially since the past of the Pileri brothers has sometimes hit the headlines...
It is therefore necessary to be patient to know if the project has the slightest chance of succeeding, or if we will still have to wait for some technological advances, whether in the field of batteries or the very sophisticated electronics which manage them, to see the birth of real electric motorcycle races.
