The race was expected to be beautiful and under high tension for the Ducati who, after their dominating tests in July, had to score their first victory here in Austria since that of Casey Stoner at Phillip Island in 2010.
For this, the men of Borgo Panigale had moved the big armada with no less than 9 machines on the grid, plus the same Casey Stoner as elite advisor in the box.
On the first two lines of a grid flooded with sunlight and composed of Iannone, Rossi, Dovizioso, Lorenzo, Marquez and Vinales, everyone chose the same weapons, hard rear tire / medium front, except Iannone who opted for a range a notch softer.
