The first half of this season has highlighted a Joan Mir who leads the championship with 37 points ahead of Romano Fenati.

Currently second in the championship, the one who made the debut of Moto3 in 2012 (the only one with Niccolo Antonelli, but who is somewhat disappointing this year) is therefore making a very nice return within the Snipers Team of Giancarlo and Mirko Cecchini, after his brutal ousting from the Sky VR46 Moto3 team in Austria last year.

Almost a year later, Motosprint, in its paper version, returned to this incident which, at the time, hit the headlines...

It's almost a year since you were let go from the Sky VR46 Moto3 team. How did you feel then, when you were third in the standings and you were laid off? Did you run away in the night to avoid seeing the races, as someone said?

“I would have done so willingly, but instead I was forced to stay because I had no return ticket. I had to wait to leave for a car to pick me up from Ascoli. That night, none of those who were with me went to sleep. We laughed and joked. This may seem strange but the situation even made me smile. And then there was the media attention: for once, I actually felt important.

The key to bouncing back? Turn off the phone for a good week. Turning off the phone gave me a new experience for me. I lived like the children of the past, without being permanently connected. I rode my bike, I went to the sea in sandals, swimsuits and shirts, without any pressure. Dates with my girlfriend and friends were made orally, I was a child again.

After a week, I started training again, but without a specific goal. I did it for me. My thoughts kept taking me back to motorcycling and racing, so I tried to dismiss them and focused on family, my girlfriend, friends. I also went to the mountains to do a little climbing, and nature shaped me. Even the things that don't work serve to grow, especially for me who is not capable of pretending or using a half-hearted tone. I am sincere and straightforward. »

Today you are fighting with your old team, the Sky VR46 team. With what eyes do you look at this?

“There are no hard feelings. It's a bit like leaving a girl you still love. I see that they are working hard and well, and they will undoubtedly come to the forefront again. »

Whatever the final result of the Moto3 World Championship, Romano Fenati and his team will make it jump to Moto2 next year.
