This year is a particularly competitive Moto2 season. Previous campaigns had given us the habit of seeing a boss emerge mid-season. It is clear that, this time, it is still to be found. Between Zarco, Rins and Lowes, everything remains open since each has had their best time. But it is the Frenchman who arrives in the best dynamic ahead of the German end of the calendar.
Johan zarco has thus succeeded in what is the least obvious to accomplish in a Moto2 category where each thousandth is negotiated at a high price on the handlebars of a bike practically identical to that of the opponents: to fill in just three Grand Prix a liability of 31 points. However, this is what the reigning World Champion did, thanks to two victories and a second place. Meanwhile, these two direct adversaries marked time by staying away from the top step of a podium that had otherwise been missed once. In summary, the Ajo pilot leads the debates thanks to his number of victories higher than the accounting of a Kidneys which displays the same number of points. Sam Lowes follows at five lengths.
Last year it was Xavier Simeon which had imposed itself in Germany in front of zarco et Kidneys, Lowes settling for fifth place behind Courses but in front of a Lüthi who remains in ambush in the title race. The Swiss is fourth in the provisional general standings with 93 points. It should be noted that if the Frenchman has never won on the Sachsenring, just like the Briton, the Spaniard experienced this happiness in 2013 during the Moto3 era.
That said, there will be many outsiders who want to upset this trio. Lüthi, we have said it, but also Nakagami which finally materialized in the category during the last meeting in Assen. It will also be necessary to monitor the local pilots who will be motivated even more by the country's air. Jonas Folger will be keen to celebrate his new Tech3 contract for MotoGP with a result that finally lives up to the hopes placed in him. Sandra Cortese, his teammate will want to show that he has nothing to envy him by trying to repeat his success in Moto3 in 2012. Likewise Marcel schrotter will strip himself in order to remind the rest of the board that he is not a hope of the past.
Finally, we will monitor the provision of a Dominique Aegerter who will return from Japan injured following a fall during qualifying practice for the Suzuka 08:00 Endurance event.
