This post-race press conference of the German Grand Prix brought together Marc Marquez (see here), Valentino Rossi (see here) and Maverick Vinales.
As usual, we report here our translation of the entirety of the comments of the person concerned, without journalistic formatting or distortion.
Maverick Vinales : "Of course it's good to get a slightly more consistent result, but anyway, I think that as we are here on the podium at the Sachsenring, while last year we suffered a lot, this year seems much better. So I think we have improved quite a bit on the bike. But nevertheless, there is still a step to climb, also for me, so we will see in Brno.”
Was the pace what you expected?
“Yes, I prepared very well for the last 10 or 15 laps, but actually I didn't expect to be 7th. I expected to be there, fighting in the lead. There's always time to work, to get even stronger, and I think right now we're finding that feeling again that I can be fast at the end. So I have to improve my driving to be fast at the start.”
We know that you have a deficit in electronics. Now, on this track you are inclined for a very long time and Traction Control must be very important here. How do you deal with this?
“Exactly the same (as Valentino Rossi: see here). We have finally found a very good balance and I think our bike is very competitive chassis-wise, but we need to improve the electronics. I think today during my race I missed opportunities on the straight because I couldn't overtake. I think we are progressing step by step and I am also focusing on my riding to try to compensate a little for the electronics. And I think we are working well, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.”
Your first part of the race was difficult. Was it the same feeling you had until Barcelona?
“Yes, it’s almost similar (as Marc Márquez: see here). Very low grip at the start of the race and which improved lap after lap. Honestly, it's strange, but that's how it is. But anyway, today I used the strengths of my Yamaha to try to overtake the Ducatis.”
