This weekend, MotoGP will resume its rights on a Sachsenring track representing Germany on the Grand Prix calendar. One last push on the other side of the Rhine before the summer break. The symbol, also, of mid-season. We will therefore have to emerge intact and pump up this Teutonic campaign, at the risk of finding ourselves very deprived when the recovery comes.
A mental step that Marc Marquez approaches with high morale. Despite a complicated Honda to drive, the double HRC World Champion arrives in Germany as a championship leader. Having emerged from the hell of Assen with honors and practically full points against his direct opponents in the Yamaha, he is at the head of a capital of 24 points ahead of Lorenzo and 42 units on Red. But also, and above all, he is packing his bags for a circuit that has never betrayed him. Judge for yourself: during his last three runs, he took pole position, best lap in the race and victory. A habit acquired from the intermediate categories since victory was won in 2011 and 2012 in Moto2 while the realization came in 125cc in 2010. And, each time, it was from pole position that MM93 started .
A record that impresses and there is only one Dani Pedrosa time spent which can be compared with the eldest of Aleix in Moto2. Because it is the one who is today 72 points behind his teammate in the championship who holds the record for victories in the premier category at the Sachsenring. This is thanks to its achievements in 2007, then from 2010 to 2012. In passing, we see that this circuit is particularly popular with Hondas.
Nothing to rejoice in a Yamaha duo. Jorge Lorenzo comes out of two complicated events punctuated by a retirement and an anonymous tenth place in the rain which dissolved his talent. The Mallorcan must react on a track which is one of the five places where he has never experienced victory in MotoGP. Four second places are his only best results. For his part, Valentino Rossi has not climbed the top step of a German Grand Prix since 2009. His best results since then have been two third places. The Doctor already regrets three withdrawals this year. A complicated situation but not prohibitive since Mick Doohan had managed to overcome this pitfall by winning the title in 1998.
Among the outsiders we will count on the Ducati still looking for success after having achieved their hundredth podium at Assen thanks to Redding. There will also be the Suzukis, always in progress. And then we will have to deal with the weather and the Michelin tires. Who knows if we won't still have a surprise guest if the elements get involved? About it, Loris Baz will make his comeback on his Ducati.
